Teenager psychotherapy

If you have a teenager who is showing typical signs of adolescent psychological problems, then I could help

Does your teenage son or daughter struggle ? Do they suffer from stress and anxiety because of constant assessments and exams? Seem addicted to social media or gaming? Have been affected by bullying? Marital break-up? Bereavement? If you suffered as a teenager, can you imagine how helpful speaking to a trained professional might have been?

Research shows that about half of the major mental health issues develop in the teenage years2. I believe that these issues are a bit like a parking ticket. If ignored they get worse and more costly. If brushed under the carpet they can develop into more pronounced long-term issues. Resulting in depression, stress-related conditions, low self-esteem, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, and relational difficulties.

When counselling teenagers I use all the same principles of adult therapy with a relational/systemic approach which offers confidentiality within the context of the family dynamics, affording a collaborative approach with parents/guardians with negotiated regular updates.

If you have a teenager who is showing some of these typical signs of adolescent psychological problems, then I could help:

  • Difficulty in coping with daily life/ extended period of depression and lethargy
  • Excessive worrying
  • Noticeable changes in eating
  • Disturbed sleeping patterns
  • References to suicide or self-harm
  • Apparent changes in personality
  • Drug/alcohol misuse
  • Pronounced demonstrations of aggression
